The North and Mid Wales network of Youth Arts Network Cymru is delighted to introduce award-winning Scottish interdisciplinary artist Sarah Calmus to North Wales.

The Edinburgh based artist, who’s work ranges from large-scale light installations to nomadic social interventions, will host a free S.O.S (Survival Now Skills): Grounds for Manifestos workshop (10am – 4pm, Friday, 29th of March at Frân Wen, Menai Bridge) that explores the notions of collaborative, collective empowerment and solidarity within the arts.

The workshop will have BSL interpretation.

Activities include:

  • An Artist Talk with Q and A from Sarah Calmus
  • A performative movement workshop exploring the power of the body
  • Group Manifesto building; the Freelancers Manifesto
  • Mini Manifestos – participants take to the soup box to expound their vision of a utopia in the arts industries.

Built for freelancers, artists and those working in the arts industries, her workshop brings an examination of solidarity into focus through the lens of collective activities, manifestos, performative movement and group discussions. It is also suitable for anyone who may wish to explore ideas of solidarity within an arts context.

There will also be the opportunity to get involved in the Youth Arts Network Cymru’s creative consultation ‘Dream it build it’ – generating future plans for Youth Arts in Wales.
