A network for new writing

We were blown away by the response to a writers’ call-out for our Popeth ar y Ddaear project in 2020. Let’s not waste this opportunity we said.

So, we collaborated with Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru and Literature Wales to launch a New Writing programme that commits to supporting new playwrights in the Welsh language. Encouraging writers to dare, to experiment, follow their instinct and challenge the boundaries of theatre – site-specific, gig-theatre, musicals, plays, verbatim.

Our first wave of writers are mind-blowing. They developing honest, relevant and important work that truly represent the diverse young voices of contemporary Wales – and we can’t wait to share more with you over the coming months.

Frân Wen New Writing sits under our Artist Development activity. We’re seeking to broaden the range of voices heard across our stages, create exciting new work and to actively seek out and nurture emerging artists.

The 2020 writers have been mentored by the Fran Wen team and amazing artists such as Marc Rees, Hannah McPake and Seiriol Davies.
